We would typically start off the morning when the mall opened at the SEA LIFE Aquarium where kids 2 and under are free. SEA LIFE has an interactive touch pool that is a big hit with the preschoolers, a Sea Turtle Rescue Center, and it also boasts North Carolina’s only Ocean Tunnel.

Since 2023 marks the 75th anniversary of NASCAR, the hall is enjoying reinvigorated interest from fans across the nation. A large beltline loop bypass, I-485, was just finally completed in June 2023 around the entire greater Charlotte area. Getting from one side of the metro area to the other can easily take an hour or more, so map out travel routes carefully and be realistic about the ground you can cover.
We had a lot of fun visiting the museum and enjoyed exhibits on dinosaurs, minerals, animals, critters, nature, and so much more! If you haven’t been yet, you should add it to your museum bucket list. The James K. Polk Historic Site is located just a few miles from Charlotte where it commemorates the life and boyhood of America’s 11th president. It is an interesting site to visit with children who will come away from the site with a better understanding of what daily life was like in the 1800’s. Once you have toured the house you can take a walk along the nature trail and enjoy a picnic in the shaded picnic area. For a day of limitless family fun you can take the children to Carowinds amusement park.
The park has a large grassy area, perfect for picnics and for playing games. With laser technology, a 12-channel sound system, and lifelike images, the dome theater is a one-of-a-kind experience that will wow everyone visiting. Yet, the Levine Museum of the New South has plenty for visitors of all ages. Of the two, the frogs were far more kid friendly with their terrariums and brightly colored information signs. Elsewhere in the museum, there's also an aquarium area where we spent a good bit of time. While the museum has retained some of what I remember, there were several updated areas that I would've been delighted to experience as a kid.
